The Catron County Clerk handles marriage-license workflow, recorded county documents, certified marriage copies, and clerk-to-probate links. Sherry Perez is the County Clerk. Divorce is different. Divorce, custody, parentage, and other domestic-relations cases are District Court records. Catron County District Court sits in Reserve, but all Catron District Court filings go through the Socorro District Court Clerk's Office at 200 Church Street in Socorro, phone 575-835-0050 ext. 12. A person who needs a certified divorce decree should use the District Court route, not the County Clerk marriage-license route.

Catron County Marriage License Rules

Marriage licenses in Catron County are by appointment only. Both applicants must appear in person together unless a District Judge authorizes issuance when an applicant cannot appear. The county requirements say the marriage application form is available in the County Clerk's office, government-issued ID satisfies proof of age and identity, Social Security number is required, and the license may be purchased any time before the ceremony. A New Mexico license issued in Catron County is valid for a ceremony anywhere in New Mexico.

The signed marriage certificate must be returned to the County Clerk's Office within 90 days after the ceremony. Applicants who are 16 or 17 must bring an original or certified birth certificate and written consent of each living parent listed on the birth certificate. Consent may be given in person at the clerk's office or by notarized statement. Under age 16 marriage is allowed only when pregnancy exists and a Children's or Family Court Judge authorizes the marriage.

Apply for Catron County Marriage

Prepare for the appointment before going to the clerk's office. The current Catron County marriage license fee is $55 effective June 20, 2025. The older clerk fee schedule may still show $25, but the separate official county fee-increase notice controls the current fee. The fee breakdown is $20 for county clerk document preservation and technology, $20 for the Children's Trust Fund, and $15 for the county general fund.

1. Call or email the Catron County Clerk to schedule the marriage license appointment.
2. Both applicants appear together unless a District Judge has authorized issuance without one applicant present.

Court clerks require exact filing fees and accept cash, money orders, and cashier's checks; personal checks are not accepted under the Seventh Judicial District fee guidance.
